1989
Music and Lyrics by L. Gillam

Hey old friend, say how’ve you been?
It’s been so many years
Those pictures on your profile page
Have me laughing half to tears

The big hairdos, the clothes, the shoes
Those absurdly high waistlines
Yeah, we looked so fine in
1989

We were so content with weekends spent
Standing in that Breezeway line
We’d stare at "God", completely awed
Thinking, “Oooh…he’s so divine!”

Might only have the chance for a single dance
By the time we got inside
But we didn’t mind in
1989

That old slum on Suez Street should have been condemned
We didn’t care ‘cause we loved it there, it was all so simple then
We lived on toast and mac and cheese, and those coolers made of wine
Meals were so sublime in 1989

Those were the good old days of ancient ways
Oh, remember way back when
We had to use our hands to write with
Paper and a pen

The phone was on the wall at home
We’d never heard the word “online”
We had so much time in
1989

I can’t believe that twenty years have quickly come and gone
We’re all approaching forty now, how time keeps marching on
Our dark hair may be turning gray, but we’re a little more refined
Life’s sure been kind since 1989

Solo

Thanks old friend for checkin’ in, and cheering me this way
This journey makes me thankful for all the blessings of today
If a genie with his magic lamp said that I could turn back time
Think I’d stay away from 1989
I wouldn’t last a day in 1989
